While most rugged PCs are of the laptop or tablet variety these days, those wanting to lug around a bigger, more capable system now have new component to add to their rig courtesy of Stealth Computer, which has just trotted out what it claims to be the industry’s first rugged 24-inch LCD monitor with a touchscreen interface. That ruggedness comes courtesy of an all-steel enclosure, which promises to keep the LCD safe from water, dust and dirt, although Stealth doesn’t seem to be making any promises about drops. Otherwise, you can expect the usual 1920 x 1200 resolution, along with a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 5 ms response time, DVI and VGA ports, an optional anti-reflective overlay, and even an optional capacitive touchscreen sensor. All of that comes at an expectedly hefty price, however, with the SV-2400 setting you back between $2,000 and $2,500 depending on the configuration.

  • While we can’t say it’s our notion of an ideal keyboard, we’ve still got to admire designer Kong Fanwen’s ability to throw any sense of practicality to the wind and ditch the whole idea of keys with his new “No-key Keyboard” concept. In the place of that tried and true typing mechanism, this keyboard would instead make use of a camera and the “latest motion capture technology” to watch your fingers’ movement and capture all the right keystrokes (ideally). On the upside, that’d apparently make the keyboard fully waterproof, and it’d apparently come with some snazzy lighting options to help you find those non-existent keys in the dark.

  • If those high-end Pentax DSLRs aren’t your thing, then perhaps the company’s just-announced Optio M50 will be more to your (and your bank account’s) liking. Available in your choice of silver, blue or pink, this one boasts 8 megapixels and a slightly better than usual 5x optical zoom, along with a 2.5-inch LCD, ISO shooting modes all the way up to ISO 6400, and increasingly common features like face recognition and smile capture. Look for it to hit in March with a list price of $230 and be sure to hit up the gallery below for a closer look at the camera in each of the available colors.
